~ Sensuality ~
by Andrea Sanzo

Much has been written regarding sensuality. Over the centuries and from culture-to-culture, sensuality has been viewed differently. What is your definition of Sensuality? Ask a handful of people, each will have their own interpretation. The dictionary definition varies, depending upon the version and maker.

Sensuality is more than sexual expression or being ~ it is the key ingredient for a rich life. To be sensual is to be completely at home in one's body, to trust in, live through and be aroused by what the senses perceive. Sensual perception may include things of beauty, luxury and refinement, the appreciation of simplicity and the awe-inspiring bounty of nature, the passion in creativity and the arts, and the deep connection to ourselves, to others and to the universe. With each day we have a choice - to reach our destination, or to enjoy our journey. Without sensory awareness, we often reach our destination without really noticing much that has happened around us. When we engage our senses, we notice and enjoy our journey. Our lives become multi-dimensional, they become a tapestry woven with our experiences.

Sensuality is not something one is born with or without, nor is it something that just happens. Sensuality may be more innate to some cultures or individuals than others, but it is available to us all. The only requirement to becoming sensual is a commitment to creating and cultivating it in our lives. Start small. Take the opportunity to glory in a sunrise or sunset, savor the tastes and textures of a meal, listen to music that moves you, feel the sun or breeze on your face, smell the familiar scent of a loved one or a fragrant flower. Being sensual requires simply that we take the time to become aware ~ to begin noticing things that we see, hear, taste, smell or touch ~ and to take pleasure in doing so. Feeling personally enriched and joyful leads to a more harmonious and deeper life experience ~ it creates passion, spirituality and a deeper awareness of others. Most importantly, sensuality helps create a life experience that is awe-inspiring and sustaining, even through life's challenges.
